I’ve been waiting to write this post since the moment I stepped onto the property of PARKROYAL Collection Pickering Hotel in Singapore.
When traveling to Singapore, most are told staying at Marina Bay Sands, as familiarized in the film, “Crazy Rich Asians.” It is said, even if just for one night, it is worth it. For us, paying $650/night for the least expensive room offered was not justifiable. Our “compromise” for less than half price? PARKROYAL on Pickering.
The Grounds
This hotel is a work of art. From the lush detail on the outside, to the open and airy lobby, there is no detail untouched in this place. Walking in, I was greeted with the warmth, sans pretentiousness, I’d want from a Singaporean accommodation.
The Rooms
I am the biggest fan of natural light and I was so impressed at the use of it in our room. In addition, the doors to the bathroom are all on maneuver so that you can literally customize the shape of the bathroom and how much natural light you choose to allow inside. The design, I would describe as “Contemporary Zen Greenhouse.”
The Amenities
The hotel has everything one would need on a Singaporean get-away to include a day spa, a fitness center overlooking the infinity pool and garden, as well as a restaurant and bar inside the hotel. Here are some impeccable views of the pool. Tip: get up a little earlier to get a bungalow all to yourself. I sat in one from 8:30-10:30am on a Saturday to work on my grad school homework.
The Location
A mere 600m from Clarke Quay metro station as well as Chinatown, you cannot go wrong with this location. It’s 17km from Changi Airport which is about a $20USD cab fare. Also, if you prefer to walk, Marina Bay Sands is only 30 minutes.
Overall
I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE THIS HOTEL! PARKROYAL on Pickering was one of the best experiences I have had in my travels. If you are looking for a luxury experience for less than half the price of Marina Bay Sands, look no further than PARKROYAL on Pickering.
