Just a short 45 miles from Boise’s downtown epicenter, Jump Creek Falls is a perfect Spring half day getaway to take a deep breath in nature! Shout out to my friend Chelsie for giving me the idea to explore this spot solo, but could easily make for a family fun day!
Let’s get to the deats of everything you need to know:
Jump Creek Falls
Although heavily trafficked, the hike itself is more of a fun, nature trail and less than a mile round trip. The best part is that it’s easily accessible and leads to a sixty foot waterfall and pool at the end! You have to cross a small stream, but there are rocks to step on so you can get across extremely easily and stay dry.
The pool itself was crowded, but because I was by myself, I was able to climb up on boulders small children may not have been able to accomplish and enjoy the view from the top! Because of this: I’d recommend wearing hiking shoes over sneakers even though the path itself is pretty simple.
Exploring More
On the property, there are two other trailheads for longer loops. I wasn’t able to explore everything, but I was able to climb and walk around, viewing the canyon from the very top
What You Need to Know
The nature trail at the bottom would be ideal for families with children wanting to start beginner hikes. There are plenty of coves to stop off the trail and maybe have a packed lunch. You only need 20-30 minutes to complete the trail without exploring, but it’d set aside at least an hour!
Cell reception was great and there was an outhouse, picnic tables and trash cans available. The parking area was very crowded when I left around 1:30pm, so I suggest getting an earlier start, if possible.
How To Get There?
GPS worked great for me to find it and only about an hour to do, but in case you need some reassurance:
From Boise:
- Take Interstate 84 West to the Nampa exit for Highway 55 (Exit 33A)
- Take Highway 55 through Marsing and on to the junction with US-95
- Continue 1½ miles past the junction and turn left onto Cemetery Road.
- Turn left at the T-intersection with a STOP sign.
- The road becomes Jump Creek Road as it continues south.
- Just after passing under power lines, the road curves right
- stay on the roadway as it curves back to the left toward the entry to the recreation area. There are plenty of signs to indicate you’re there!
- there are two parking lots: an upper and a lower. If your only plan is the nature trail/falls: head to the lower lot!
- stay on the roadway as it curves back to the left toward the entry to the recreation area. There are plenty of signs to indicate you’re there!
